There are lots of Irish pubs in Long Beach, and we’ve even written about many of them before. They are certainly trendy at the moment, but they can occasionally blend together as they strive for “authenticity”. If you are looking for an Irish pub that offers a new and different experience each time, and a great deal, then you need to check out KC Branaghan’s Irish Pub on Naples Island.
Situated on 2nd Street in the former confines of Limerick’s Pub, KC Branaghan’s opened in 2007 with a remodeled interior that still maintains some of the character of the old place. Gone is the high-topped bar with the built-in piano, but a couple of the enclosed wooden booths remain. The faux-finished walls are littered with obligatory old musical instruments and farm implements, along with pictures of the old country, piecing together an atmosphere that is all well and good. However, what sets KC Branaghan’s apart are the food and drink specials that they offer each day.
They serve a fairly broad menu, covering everything from “Traditional Irish Fayre” (blood sausage, bangers, fish and chips, and a myriad of potato concoctions) to finer items (prime rib, filet mignon, short ribs, and grilled salmon) all the way to good old American bar food (buffalo wings, cheeseburgers, onion rings, and nachos). They do just about all of it fairly well, and offer a similarly varied drink menu, with draft beers ranging from Irish classics such as Guiness, Harp, and Smithwicks to seldom-seen-on-tap Belgians like Palm, Chimay, and Delirium. They even serve PBR in tall cans, so whatever meal you choose there is a beer for you. You’d be fine going in and ordering whatever strikes your fancy on the menu, but the way to do it at KC Branaghan’s is to sign up for their e-mail list and find out what the weekly specials are.
Every Monday is Half-Price Night, with a different featured entrée and draft beer offered at half-price. House wines and the full selection of appetizers are also half off, making Monday a great night to try something new at a low price. Some of their other specials include Pint Night on Tuesdays, with a different featured draft beer where you get to keep the special glass, as well as $8 off Filet Mignon on Wednesdays or Prime Rib on Thursdays. Saturdays and Sundays they serve their Traditional Irish Breakfasts with the not-so-traditional Bottomless Mimosas, where the champagne flows pretty much all day long.
KC Branaghan’s makes for a fun place to watch a ballgame, with a bunch of TV’s covering most of the major games going on. They have been opening up at 6:30am for USA World Cup matches, as well as giving a 15% meal discount to fans wearing Galaxy gear during LA games. They are pretty much begging you to come in with all the specials they have going, so give KC Branaghan’s a try and catch something new and different for a great deal.
