There is a lot of great Mexican food in the city of Long Beach, but I have to say that the best place to go is Enrique’s. Everything that I have had has been absolutely delectable. I highly suggest the slow cooked pork shoulder. It comes in Chile Verde sauce and is served over rice. Give it go, I am sure that you will agree.

Long Beach is serious lacking great mexican food, with that said, My vote is for Super Mex or, not actually in Long Beach…but El Zarape in Los Alamitos.

Taco bell. Nothing like two Grande Meals all to myself. The only question is how to break down the crunchy-soft-bean burrito ratio. And then there’s the sauce. Hot. Fire. Hot. Fire. I could go on, and usually I would, but all this typing has me out of breath.

I have been to Enrique’s probably a dozen times and never been disappointed. There is a lot of variety on the menu, the food is delicious and the servers have been great.

There is no shortage of good Mexican food in Long Beach and I cannot, in good conscience, vote for only one. I CAN vote for the best place to go for a certain dish.

    Burrito:
If it’s a burrito you want, the only place to go is Taqueria Mexicana on 4th street. Try the California Burrito or the Chicken Burrito with everything. A close runner up is definitely Casa Sanchez with the Chicken Chimichanga Burrito.

    Tacos:
Hole Mole. I can’t believe I am voting for a chain, but it’s undeniable. When I want a taco, it’s off to Hole Mole I go. From the potato tacos on up to the asada or fish, each taco is packed with flavor and beyond worth the $1 I paid. P.S. The Horchata is to die for.
(A few notable mentions: Lobster tacos at The Pike on 4th and Taco San Pedro on Carson, & the Fajita Taco at Super Taco on W. Willow)

    Enchiladas/Plate meals:
Enrique’s on PCH is the perfect joint for a sit down dinner and full plate of standard mexican food.

    Tamales:
The Long Beach Farmer’s Market by the Marina. Melt in your mouth goodness. Enough said.

Enriques is definitely the best. The food is NOT standard as mentioned above, but top of the line, authentic from the Northern mountain area of Mexico. Great food, wonderful service, and everyone always feels welcomed!!!

Not in LB but Stanton (go figure) – Fonda Le Meche. Oddly enough, featured on Chowhound in Feb. http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/691124

    Long Beach is seriously lacking.

either taqueria on 4th or la revancha on anaheim (everyone complains about no rice and beans at this place… cry me a river, the tacos are bomb)

Enrique’s is the BEST. For sit down or take out their homemade meals are delicious! The service is excellent plus Enrique and Michelle are such wonderful restaurant owners! Enrique’s appetizers to dinners to dessert creations are incredible! Michelle greets and oversees the business with a warm and friendly invite to each and every person. Love their food and crave it weekly.

Sit down: Los Compadres…there’s one on Pine/10th and one on Anaheim/Redondo. It’s close to being authentic.

Take out: Taqueria on 4th Street. I crave the burrito with everything. Yes, that’s what it’s called.

    Tacos-King Taco
    Burritos-Hole Mole
    Tortas- El Gallo Giro

But there are so many more…

This one is a head scratcher, because Enrique’s pork shoulder is the bomb (don’t like their rice though), King Taco’s red salsa is smokin’, Hole Mole’s fish tacos are the best this side of the border, SuperMex has the killer gut bomb burritos, but in the end it’s got to be El Gallo Giro because the Tortas are off the hook and they do a decent job of everything else you might want.

    #1 Lola’s (4th Street & Cherry)
bonus: they have lots of Vegetarian choices & you get a discount with your Art Theatre movie ticket stub

#2 Casa Sanchez (Anaheim & Termino)

#3 Taqueria (on 4th Street) for a fast meal

Baja Sonora on Spring and Clark is pretty bomb but I gotta stay true to Casa Sanchez and Brite Spot. It’s a toss up between those three. But the best mexican food I’ve had came from Tacos La Potranca De Jalisco in King City, CA.

At first I thought all the multiple choice answers were crazy but the more I think about it:

Taqueria La Mexicana on 4th St. – Carne Asada Burrito

Casa Sanchez on Anaheim/Termino – Chicken Tacos and more

Mariscos Guero on South St. – Shrimp and other seafood goodies.

Enrique’s on PCH/Loynes – Great combination of delicious dishes and a nice place to sit down and enjoy them.

Next contest will have to be a bit more specific, you guys are all over it!

Taqueria on 4th and Redondo is one of the hidden gems of Long Beach. One of the best burritos I have had for an extraordinarily low price!

La Chaparal on Aneheim near Redondo.

Best Carne Asada burrito ever. Tell the to hold the rice and use retried beans. About 5 bucks and the best ever with the green sauce on the side.

I agree with a couple of the other posts I saw. For being in the most southern area of L.A. County it’s not too abundant with Mexican restaurants. But I will say that it is quality over quantity in Long Beach. I (again, like most the readers) found that I couldn’t just think of one place to be the top, but I was able to narrow it down to two.

One of my votes is going to Hole Mole. Their fish tacos are straight amazing, and their deals (combos and Taco Tuesday, obvi.) makes this place’s prices just as authentic as the roasted, seasoned green chillies that you get when picking up your order. Their chili bar brings a tear to my eye every time I gaze upon it’s hot, flavorful magnificence. Plus, I’m sucker for places that serve my jamaica with a ladle.

My favorite place to sit down, drink a Dos Equis, and enjoy some Cumbias is Brite Spot. I love the atmosphere and their wet burritos make you wet yourself! Ya, I went there. I appreciate a place that serves lengua and doesn’t charge extra for a ton of guac’. If you’re close enough they will even deliver! This guy walked to my house one time..

On a side note: My vote for favorite Mexican Chef goes to that guy that cooks outside of A.I. and some other bars on 2nd St. at like 2 in the morning. Your three item menu gets me every time, sir! And that’s not just the booze talking.

So there I was on Broadway approaching the midnight hour in need of some form of comida (“comida” is Spanish for food) and what did I find? A bar..but wait, this bar had a Mexican Restaurant attached to it. Were do you find such things? Only in Long Beach on Broadway and Redondo at Cocoreno’s. (There is supposed to be a sqiggly line over the “n”). Cocoreno’s is the Mexican restaurant which is open ’til midnight on the weekends. It is attached to a classy establishment known as the Reno Room which is open ’til 2 am.

    My vote, Cocoreno’s!

i think the Coco Renos is the best mex in town. their salsa is authentically tasty and the has spice to boot. the food is quickly but artfully prepared right in front of you and tastes amazing. i went their with bone, j and toby for the first time the other day and was pleasantly surprised. the reno room bar is attached and you can eat in the restaurant or bar. this place rocks and not just because its a short walk from my house but because its so long beach.

So, it all depends on your mood with mexican food…I would say best workmans/ right from mexico type place is la taquira off of 4th. The best gringo food and salsa is supermex. The best cheap tacos are at taco surf…sorry if this didn’t help but hey if there is one thing i love about mexican food it is all the same stuff but each place throws it together differently…

Enrique’s all the WAY…the best salsa and fabulous changing menu with their daily specials. Well worth any wait you may encounter during dinner times. Love their chicken dishes!!!

I do love CocoReno’s salsa and chicken tacos, too.
